Labouche to Dingboche: It was very cold wake up. The air was so crisp in the night the whole tent had frozen. It had a thin layer of ice around the entire roof. We tried to stay in our tent until the sun came up to make it warmer before we got fully dressed. Packing up camp We had a short hike down the glacier valley. Because we had a short hike and we were feeling like we had finished our primary goal, we decided to stay in bed until after 8am. Once the sun had fully baked our tent, we emerged to start another day. We took our baby wipe shower in the tent when it was warm enough to get dressed. When we got out of our tent we found out that we were the last tent in our group to be torn down. We packed up our stuff and prepped our daypack for the hike as the porters tore down the tent.
When we finally got on the road we walked on mostly level ground to the next campsite. Dingboche was far nicer than Labouche and there was a long stone fence that guided us to our campground. On the trail was what seemed like and endless line of Yaks coming off the mountain. Overlooking Dingboche We had to jump out of the way to avoid being trampled on the narrow 5-foot wide path between the two stone fences. Even once we had our camp set up, we had to stampeding Yaks run through our camp, looking lost, scared, and big. We took a nap in the afternoon sun baked tent with dreams of Yaks trampling us as we slept. We woke up for tea, then had dinner several hours later. Simon, Nicolas and I had a multi hour chess match. Nicolas ended up taking pity on us and gave us a few learning chess games to help us with our game. Once it reached 9pm we went off to bed to start another day. |
